We take reservations for group field trips to the museum, including pre-kindergarten and K-12 school groups, special needs organizations, and senior groups. Our tours last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the group and the questions asked. We cover the history of our museum, our Founder, history, and information about our trains and their purpose. We have samples of coal and talk a little about fuel types and what was used during the operation of our 1902 Southern Pacific steam locomotive.
We
also have a small gated Annex Park across the street
with a boxcar and a tanker. Visitors are not able
to enter the boxcar but it makes a delightful backdrop
for photographs. There are picnic tables and benches
at the park to provide a break before or after tours.
We also have a larger grassy area, the Irene Lewis Park,
which has a Santa Fe caboose where they can also have
their picture taken. The park provides an open field
for exercise before heading back to school or for art
projects where folks have a perfect view of the water
tower, the Mogul steam engine, and our beautiful Victorian-style depot.
