Dear Friends and Supporters of the Lomita Railroad Museum: It’s hard to believe but we’re coming up on the end of another year. How time has flown while we’ve been so very busy at the museum!
At the same time, we are fast approaching the Lomita Railroad Museum’s 50th anniversary. We will be getting back with you over the next several months on our plans for our anniversary year. But as we prepare, we find ourselves reflecting on how the museum can build upon its rich heritage, starting with Mr. & Mrs. Lewis’ moving their business, Little Engines, to Lomita; followed by Mrs. Lewis’ constructing and later donating the museum to the city; and continued by the museum’s dedicated staff working over the years to ensure its survival so that future generations can learn from it and enjoy.
Meanwhile, over the past year with financial and volunteer support from folks such as you, we have been able to move forward on a number of fronts at the Museum.
We continue to have growing numbers of visitors—local school children as well as families and adults from as far away as Asia, Europe and Canada. And the family oriented entertainment offered at our various public events continues to draw large numbers of attendees.
Museum staff, with the help of community and museum volunteers, has almost completed updating our inventory of holdings—the first time this has been done for many years. They have also been working diligently at updating and creating new displays and informational materials for display at the museum. And thanks to grants from Union Pacific Foundation and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, these displays will soon start being available for your viewing on our website, at the museum, and in poster format for distribution to local schools and in our gift shop.
Speaking of our website, the Museum and Foundation carry on making strides into the electronic age. Our goals are to increase communication with you and our other supporters and to more widely promote the Museum and its programs to new visitors. Please keep an eye on our website as it is continually updated, sign up for email news, and Follow Us on Facebook. Every month, we hear another visitor tell us that they have just discovered the Lomita Railroad Museum. Please help us get the word out!
