Dear Friends of the Lomita Railroad Museum,
As we approach the end of 2020, the Lomita Railroad Museum Foundation, Inc. reflects on a year like no other. Since mid-March, the museum has been closed and was unable to hold our annual fundraising events: Tea at the Museum, Community Day and Polar Express. These fundraisers help us to maintain and preserve the museum itself and its artifacts.
We will need to be prepared when the museum does reopen with getting the museum spruced up, repairs made and paint where needed, etc. Our most recent objective is to give the 1902 Baldwin Steam Locomotive a facelift with a new coat of paint and minor repairs. We are asking for generous donations of any amount to help us reach our goal. If you would like to make a donation to help get us ready for reopening, it only takes a few minutes online. Click Donate Now and follow instructions to make a safe and secure donation via PayPal. Or if you prefer, write a check to Lomita Railroad Museum Foundation, Inc., and mail it to Lomita Railroad Museum, P. O. Box 1325, Lomita, CA 90717.
For your donation to the museum, we will send you a 2021 Family Membership at the Lomita Railroad Museum and a mini magnetic 2021 calendar for you to start the year off right! Your Family Membership benefits include:
There is one announcement we are making that will be in-play by year end: A new Donor Wall has been installed in the far NW corner of the museum’s courtyard. In 2021 another way to support the museum will be to purchase a personalized engraved brick which will become a permanent part of the Lomita Railroad Museum. The Donor Wall will have a center array that matches the logo found below the list of Board Members to the right.
We are looking forward to a time when the museum can once again welcome the local community as well as the many visitors we get from near and far. Many of you come to experience steam era rail through guided tours that showcase the unique items in our extraordinary collection or to attend an event or birthday party. Also, during the school year children have an unparalleled hands-on experience with trains and learn how steam engines work and how railroads helped open the Western United States. Visitors of all ages enjoy seeing what it was like for engineers and crew as they worked and lived on the trains.
Please note that the pet friendly Irene Lewis Park, next to the main building, is open during this time for our neighbors and friends to enjoy and get some fresh air!
Watch for a reopening announcement and for fun events on our website or follow us on Facebook. We at the Lomita Railroad Museum Foundation, Inc. wish you and yours a most Happy Holiday Season and a prosperous 2021 New Year!
Sincerely,
Katy Tamer
President, Lomita Railroad Museum Foundation, Inc.
